Staticworx Rubber Flooring Product Line

ESD rubber flooring installed in a lab facility1. Electrically Conductive (EC) Rubber Flooring

Suitable for all static control applications with permanent static dissipative properties that never lose effectiveness. Available with a conductive, interlocking base.

EC Rubber: Electrically Conductive (EC), high performance, available in rolls or tiles

2. Static Dissipative (SD) Rubber Flooring

Staticworx Rubber Tile and roll flooring is PVC and DOP free

All Staticworx rubber products are Phthalate free, lead fee, and PVC free. Why specify Phthalate free flooring? >

Static dissipative flooring is not recommended for handling open electronics, explosives or flammable liquids. There are three products within this line, all available with a conductive, interlocking base.:

  1. Rhino RC, SD Recycled Rubber: Static dissipative (SD), "green" product created from 100% post-consumer waste, tile only
  2. Architectural SD Rubber: Static dissipative (SD), 3.5 mm thick, hammered surface, tile only
  3. Harmony SD Rubber: Static dissipative (SD)

3. EC ESD Rubber Mats & Runners

The ideal solution for strategic grounding of aisleways, corridors, and work areas

Which rubber ESD Flooring tile is better: static dissipative or conductive?

Staticworx produces conductive and static dissipative flooring. Clients and architects often ask us to recommend the right version for their application. Although we offer static dissipative options, experts unanimously recommend conductive rubber over static dissipative rubber. Staticworx strongly suggests that you choose conductive (EC) flooring vs. Static dissipative (SDT) Flooring whenever static discharge might compromise or corrupt a mission critical operation. How is rubber flooring conductive?

There are two methods of producting static control rubber flooring:

  1. Chemical Additives: One method requires changing the chemistry of the rubber compound through the use of chemical additives. Chemical additives enable rubber to become static dissipative.
  2. Carbon Chip Technology: The second method requires mixing carbon chips into the rubber with other colored chips. Carbon is conductive. The carbon chips form an electrically conductive matrix allowing static electricity to flow through the rubber to ground.

3 Distinct Disadvantages of Static Dissipative (SD) Rubber

Static Dissipative (SD) Rubber requires changing the chemistry of the rubber compound through the use of chemical additives.

  1. Static dissipative properties are not permanent and cannot be bought with a lifetime warranty. They migrate out of the rubber after extended use. After several years , static dissipative rubber loses its static dissipative properties.
  2. Static dissipative rubber will not meet all the requirements of static control performance standards. For example, static dissipative rubber cannot meet the ESD requirements of ANSI/ESD S-20.20 for system resistance.
  3. Static dissipative rubber does not reduce static quickly enough to meet the needs of class 0 or explosives and munitions handling.

3 Distinct Advantages of Electrically Conductive (EC) Rubber (Carbon Chip Technology) image how does conductive rubber flooring work

Electrically Conductive (EC) Rubber is produced by mixing conductive carbon chips into the rubber with other colored chips. Carbon is an inherently conductive element. Randomly placed carbon chips enable static electricity to flow through the rubber to ground.

The black, carbon chips in static control rubber attract and route static electric charges. These pathways drain the charge through the tile, into conductive adhesive, and on into copper stripping where the charge dissipates to ground. (See image above)

  1. The static control properties are permanent. They will not change or diminish over time. The floor will always meet the original specifications and suit the original purpose.
  2. The static control properties of conductive rubber are warranted for life because carbon technology provides fail-safe static control. Carbon conductors are unaffected by aging, traffic or humidity.
  3. Conductive rubber flooring meets all performance parameters of every static control requirement and static control standard including:
  • ANSI/ESD S20.20
  • ANSI/ESD S97.1
  • ANSI/ESD S97.2
  • Class 0
  • NFPA 99
  • ANSI/ESD S7.1,
  • DOD 4145.26-M
  • FAA-STD-019e,
  • Mil STD 1686,
